Ira White

Spent the first 17 years of my life hunting, fishing, reading, and some writing. Love the woods and all the animals that inhabit it. My writing progressed with a post as a columnist for my college newspaper then nearly vanished after graduation. It was difficult finding a way to support myself but I still wrote when possible. Then came a carreer and family that occupied most of my time. I was still able to put out a small book, "Enchanted Shores," featuring short stories and a little poetry.

 After retirement, I began writing again. "We Won't Forget You Mr. McGillicuddy," was a book born out of my experience of taking care of my dad who had dementia. Then came poetry and my Rants in the Pants. My next project was "The Children of Raven's Reach," which came of my earlier association with two people who had been sexually abused as children and trafficked. 

I don't write for money. I write for love of the craft with the aim of presenting an impactful piece that not only entertains, but also informs and hopefully motivates.

  • What inspired you to start writing?
    I was an early reader. I started learning to read at age 3 when I grabbed Mom's leg and wouldn't let go until she promised to teach me to read. Dad led me through many of the classics- James Fenimore Cooper, Mark Twain, Edgar Allen Poe, and so forth. After reading so many of these books, I felt a need to write so I started out in third grade with a poem and in fourth grade I started a diary that didn't go far. My writing continued sporadically until college when the spark flamed up and I began writing in earnest.
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
    My latest book was inspired by knowing someone who was trafficked as a little child and another I suspect was trafficked by the story I was told. In addition, I have been so disappointed by the lack of prosecution despite the evidence that has come out on some of our most prominent people. I also have had a lifelong interest in magic. Put these all together with an exciting and fast paced story, add some romance and mystery and you have my book.

  • What inspired you to start writing?
    I was an early reader. At my insistence, Mom taught me to read when I was three. By the age of 5, I had read most of the little books for kids that were available at that time. Dad started me on reading the classics such as Mark Twain, James Fenimore Cooper, etc. By second grade, I started writing. Reading the writing of such great authors inspired me to follow in their footsteps. Life got in the way for several periods of time, but the urge to write continued and is now a major part of my life.
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
    My latest book, "The Children of Raven's Reach," was inspired by having come in contact with adults who had been trafficked as children. I wanted to inject this topic into people's minds as I feel not enough is done to stop this practice. The story became wrapped in fantasy with the practice of magic and soon the elements of science fiction, romance, and action were mixed in to make the book a mulit genre story. Other messages in the story that are woven into the narrative include the power of love and the statement that good cannot be accomplished using evil. My approach to writing this story is unconventional. I designed it to be fast moving and mind bending with the power to stir the imagination as well as reader's emotions. Though the subject is dark as night, there is, at the end, a bright light.
