I started very late. I am fast approaching retirement here in Spain.

I have a type of neurodivergence that has caused me problems all my working life. Now, finally I am free of all the distractions and mental health problems that plagued me so much. My mind is clear, and I have time for artistic pursuits, including writing. Not long ago I had an idea for a book and just started typing.

I’ve always loved writing and making up stories, probably since I learned to write. Of course, back then, I never seemed to stick to the same subject long enough to actually finish anything.

My latest book is still in the works. I’ve had an idea for a while that was inspired by Stephen King’s Needful Things. It started out that way anyway. And somehow it now includes a shapeshifter. I’ll be honest. I’ve kind of hit a wall with it when it comes to numerous plot points and elements. I love the shapeshifter idea and several of the scenes, but it doesn’t really fit with the theme that I started out following.

Writing came as naturally to me as breathing. From as early as I can remember, my parents introduced me to books. They recited poetry and read me stories and plays; not just any story, but great literary pieces like the works of Longfellow, Wadsworth, Shakespeare, and Dickens. So as soon as I could read and write for myself, I began trying to write poems like the ones I had heard. At six years old, one of my poems was published in my Primary School's Christmas magazine. I have been writing ever since.

My latest book is my most personal piece of work yet. It is a memoir about my family's struggle with the ugly reality of Dementia. For five decades, members of my family, beginning with my grandmother, have been affected, and I talk about the experiences and what it has been like for other family members who have served as caregivers and me.

I write memoirs that read like novels. My life has been a great adventure since I ran away to New Orleans at age fifteen, and I have lived on the road, hitchhiking around from the Rocky Mountians to across Africa to Nepal where I studied Buddhism under Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa. I'm originally from Chicago, where I was involved with the radical anti-war and Civil Rights movements back in the 1960s, but I live in Seattle now, and I will be turning 75 in March. I'm a married grandpa of 3, semiretired, and teaching health requirements for caregivers with my wife. Traveling is our passion, although I'm not getting off the grid like I used to, which my books chronicle, and these days just keeping busy writing my books gives me great satisfaction. When I'm not writing I enjoy nature, walks through the woods or when I can, rare these days, I ride horses and socialize.

I write the first chapter of my next book, placing it at the end of the previous book (a teaser) Then I write the ending of the current book so all that is left is connecting the two chapters. I work on one chapter at a time with a basic plan, it works itself out.

Creating stories and using my experience as a top videogame designer, to add popular trivia seamlessly in every chapter, borrowing from stories like Hercules, The Odyssey and Dante's Inferno making these legendary stories current and my own.

I was telling stories before I learned how to write them down. Writing is as natural to me as breathing. So it is safe to say I was born a writer.

My latest publication was the final entry into a six-book series collectively titled Birds in Peril. #6 Bluebird of Happiness is Anne's story as she survives a profoundly humiliating experiece and begins a new life with the local badboy

I've always wanted to be a writer. Living in the world of my own imagination was the way I went through life. But, in 2020 I was in a car accident that shattered my ankle. I spent a year in bed and relearning to walk. Now that I was limited in mobility, it was like my imagination took over. I no longer had to feel guilty for wanting to sit and write, because I could not do anything else.

Most of my books are contemporary series. They stem around one family and deal with shifters. However I've recently started a new project where I rewrite fairy tales and old legends inside my world with the same rules of magic my world has that act as the distant past for my modern books. I love them. Gifts of the Fae is set in the Napoleonic Era and is a retelling of an old Czech fairy tale, "The Twelve Months." It is about a shy sheep shifter who falls in love with a fae lord in hiding. There is magic and adventure in a realistic historical setting. As usual, my books are more steamy than spicy, and are plot based fantasy rather than just romance. Gifts of the Fae is a voyage that spans the ocean from Europe to America proving that love conquers all, and a little fae deviousness can go a long way.

From the start I wanted to avoid a conventional linear structure. I felt the appropriate form for a memoir, at least my memoir, was one that allowed for moving back and forth between past and present, child and adult. Ever since I started writing poetry (in my mid-twenties) I’ve been reflecting back on my turbulent childhood and early adult years, wondering how I survived them, and what impact those years have had on my present way of doing things—both functional and dysfunctional. And as an expat I’ve been braiding cultures, American and Greek, ancient and modern, for over four decades now. So to me a braided structure just seemed natural.

One of the things that truly amazed me when I first came to Greece was how landscapes here, especially in central Greece, echoed the landscapes of my best childhood years, in California’s San Joaquin Valley. Touring Greece at 26, I was again riding buses between rows of towering eucalyptus trees, past orchards and vineyards, produce spilling out from roadside fruit and vegetable stands, whole families on tractors rumbling along the dirt shoulder. The warmth and raucousness of the Greeks reminded me of that Italian foster mother and Cherokee foster father I lived with for a few years in Fresno. In Greece I also found myself immersed in the landscapes I first encountered as a boy in Bible stories and Greek myths. “Real shepherds minding their flocks, real fishermen mending their nets,” as I write in the memoir.

I was an early reader. I started learning to read at age 3 when I grabbed Mom's leg and wouldn't let go until she promised to teach me to read. Dad led me through many of the classics- James Fenimore Cooper, Mark Twain, Edgar Allen Poe, and so forth. After reading so many of these books, I felt a need to write so I started out in third grade with a poem and in fourth grade I started a diary that didn't go far. My writing continued sporadically until college when the spark flamed up and I began writing in earnest.

My latest book was inspired by knowing someone who was trafficked as a little child and another I suspect was trafficked by the story I was told. In addition, I have been so disappointed by the lack of prosecution despite the evidence that has come out on some of our most prominent people. I also have had a lifelong interest in magic. Put these all together with an exciting and fast paced story, add some romance and mystery and you have my book.
