After reading J.D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye at age 15, I decided to start writing my own stories. First it was short fiction, then later on it was poetry.

My latest published work is not creative at all, but a collection of 27 musical playlists, going back to the 1950’s. For each playlist of songs, I provided information about the song title, the year released, the composer or performer, a personal critical assessment and personal memories for each title. The book is entitled: Mind Tavern- Essential Music Playlists for the Headphone Generation. It is a nostalgic journey to this Baby Boomer’s musical past.

I was an early reader. At my insistence, Mom taught me to read when I was three. By the age of 5, I had read most of the little books for kids that were available at that time. Dad started me on reading the classics such as Mark Twain, James Fenimore Cooper, etc. By second grade, I started writing. Reading the writing of such great authors inspired me to follow in their footsteps. Life got in the way for several periods of time, but the urge to write continued and is now a major part of my life.

My latest book, "The Children of Raven's Reach," was inspired by having come in contact with adults who had been trafficked as children. I wanted to inject this topic into people's minds as I feel not enough is done to stop this practice. The story became wrapped in fantasy with the practice of magic and soon the elements of science fiction, romance, and action were mixed in to make the book a mulit genre story. Other messages in the story that are woven into the narrative include the power of love and the statement that good cannot be accomplished using evil. My approach to writing this story is unconventional. I designed it to be fast moving and mind bending with the power to stir the imagination as well as reader's emotions. Though the subject is dark as night, there is, at the end, a bright light.

I've always been inspired by my grandparents' love story. For years, I considered writing it, but my deep love for country life sparked a completely different idea instead. That idea became my debut novel, and once I finished it, I was hooked. Since then, I haven't stopped writing.

My latest book, The Other Side of Helene, is a grumpy-sunshine, forced-proximity romance set against the devastating backdrop of Hurricane Helene. It's a story that blends survival, suspense, and romance, so it's perfect for readers who enjoy high-stakes adventures with plenty of heart. After Hurricane Helene, I closely followed the devastation in Chimney Rock, and the images and stories stayed with me. I felt the people and communities affected deserved to be remembered, and writing this novel became my way of honoring what they endured. While the romance is fictional, the setting and disaster were inspired by real events, making the book as much a tribute to the resilience of the victims and survivors as it is a love story.

While working with an entertainment company as a creative director I was assigned various childrens properties to market and license. That process made me think, "I can do this better"

The story was inspired by my daughter who had a mind of her own and challenged my patience often. At some point she wore a favorite hat everywhere she went and it was almost impossible to separate her from it. It was a source of creativity and individulism Now as a parent herself she has become a great mother and wife and had three children of her own. The hat has long since disappeared

As a professional biologist and faculty member, I wrote constantly--papers, grant proposals, etc. But the habit of writing every day probably started when my high school girl friend went away to a different university than I did, so I wrote to her every day. But my serious attempt to become a published book author started in the 1970s when the academic politics at my institution became so vicious, I decided to write the Great American Novel, make millions of dollars, and throw my office keys into the football stadium. That didn't happen, of course, but my first book was eventually published, to wide acclaim, and that settle it: I would write every day, and not just scientific papers.

My latest book, LIFE LESSONS FROM A PARASITE: WHAT TAPEWORMS, FLUKE, LICE, AND ROUNDWORMS CAN TEACH US ABOUT HUMANITY'S MOST DIFFICULT PROBLEMS, published by Sourcebooks (a terrific company!), is about infectivity, including infective ideas, memes, concepts, and of course political rhetoric that can act just like some parasite, infecting a person's brain and altering their behavior.

I went to the Falklands War as a young man, carrying all the fear, pride, and uncertainty that come with being thrown into conflict long before you truly understand its cost. What I witnessed there stayed with me long after the fighting stopped. Eventually, I was diagnosed with PTSD — though at the time, I didn’t have the words, or the courage, to talk about the horrors I’d seen. A counsellor gave me a simple instruction: “Write down your thoughts and feelings.” It sounded almost trivial, but it became the turning point of my life. I picked up a notebook and began scribbling — raw memories, fragments of emotion, things I had buried for years. Those scribbles slowly took shape, and before I realised it, they became the foundation of my first book. Writing gave me a voice when I felt voiceless. It gave me a way to process the trauma, honour the men I served with, and make sense of the shadows that followed me home. I haven’t stopped writing since. What began as therapy became a passion, a purpose, and a way to connect with others who carry their own invisible wounds.

Right now, I’m deep into writing Book 3 of my sci‑fi series P‑23. This instalment pushes the story into darker, more complex territory. It follows an extra-terrestrial race that arrives on Earth uninvited, forcing humanity’s leaders into an impossible decision: to “Cull” millions of people to appease our new visitors, the Tarions. What begins as an occupation becomes a fragile alliance. Humans and Tarions eventually find themselves fighting side by side against a far more terrifying enemy — a ruthless alien species determined to wipe out every living thing on Earth. Book 3 explores the aftermath of that war: the cost of survival, the uneasy bonds forged in battle, and the question of whether humanity can ever rebuild after sacrificing so much. It’s a story about loyalty, fear, and the thin line between salvation and destruction.

In third grade, we were given an assignment to write a short story based off three prompts. I wrote a story about a friendly alien trapped on Earth. At that moment, I discovered I loved telling stories and creating new worlds.

Well, my next book (out on October 2nd), is entitled How to Survive a Serial Killer at Summer Camp. It takes my love of old 80s/90s slashers and adds a nostalgic twist with humor, thrills, scares, and a mystery as to the identity of the killer. It's my first true slasher (without any paranormal elements).

My writing journey began when I was sixteen. Writing ghost and horror stories was my passion. One story I wrote by hand when I was sixteen was 150 pages long. I never considered writing as a career until January 2015. That marks the commencement of everything. My writing experience spans twelve years. Authors, editors, and publishers were more inspiring to me. They influenced my journey into writing, and my skills improved. My literary role models inspired me to become a multi-award-winning author publishing 125 books and still writing.

My book is titled “Unsilenced: The Words I Wasn’t Allowed to Say: A Memoir.” “Unsilenced: The Words I Wasn’t Allowed to Say,” A Memoir. Based on my own experiences, my memoir focuses on coping with mental illness and disability. By discussing my personal battles with mental health, I aim to inspire readers, illustrating that hope, support, and healing are achievable regardless of life’s difficulties. My goal is for my book to inspire readers not through my own mental health challenges, but by showing them that hope, healing, and love exist. I also want to encourage individuals with mental illness to voice their experiences and overcome silence. My other mental health books include "Finding Yourself", "The Unraveling History of Mental Illness", and "In the World of Depression Therapy".

For as long as I can remember, my grandma Gigi told me stories about her life growing up in the hills of Kentucky with her nine siblings. Her stories inspired me to write down create my own. It started in first grade when I had a short story published in Children's Digest. As young as I was, the feeling I had seeing it in print, was what brought me back to writing as an adult. I've been inspired in many ways. Before only brother passed away at just 46, he encouraged me to start again. He was also a storyteller and told me I had a gift. Then when I was diagnosed with MS ten years ago, I was forced to go on disability. With time on my hands, writing kept me from slipping into depression.

I've written and self-published three full-length novels. Vex and Valor, Verdicts and Vows, & Verve and Virtue. Due to limited resources from disability, I wasn't able to publicize or hire an agent. The books all got rave reviews locally with book signings and booth sales, but they have been stagnant since. I have been writing magazine and blog articles. My next book is a set of self-reflecting stories titled Cake Crumbs.
