Q: What inspired you to start writing?
I was 5 years old when I first start writing. I just remember loving to write. I would write anything and everything. We had gotten a new computer, and it didn't have any games but had word documents. I thought it would be cool to fill it up with words. It was easier and cheap for me to carry around a spiral notebook and pen everywhere I went. Whenever inspiration came to me, I would write it down instantly.

Q: Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
I am adopted. My birth mom had me when she was 15. When I was 13 years old, I thought, what if she had decided to keep me? I wanted to show the child’s perspective since you never hear from them. And how maybe the daughter was meant to be born. Thus, Who Is It? was created.

Q: How do you create your characters?
They just come to me. I see them in my mind like a movie being played, and I can hear them talking.

Q: What does your typical writing day look like?
I run to the computer whenever an idea comes to mind. It's rare that I plan time and sit down in front of a computer. It's usually when I am able to block out any distractions. I have to have quiet time. Then the ideas flow through me. Once this happens, I'm pounding away on the computer, racing to keep up with my mind.

Q: What has been the most rewarding part of being an indie author?
I own the book. Everything has been on my terms. I have final in all aspects of planning and executing.

Q: What’s one challenge you’ve faced in your writing journey?
It's hard to get your book out there in front of a big audience. Especially as a new author. No one's ever heard of you. All my readers have enjoyed my book and ask what happens next. Or if there will be a sequel. This will be a series. Probably 3 or 4 books. My readers are male and female of all ages. There's something for everyone to relate to, whether it be a character or situation. It takes place in high school.

I use Office 365.

Q: What advice would you give to new or aspiring indie authors?
Never give up.

Q: How do you handle book promotion as an indie author?
You have to constantly promote your book. It's a full-time job.

Q: What’s next for you? Are you working on a new book?
I'm writing the sequel to Who Is It? I have 250 pages so far.
