John Cowpe

Since childhood I have always enjoyed writing. I then had a long career in journalism, including 21 years as a newspaper editor. When I semi-retired I thought I would like to be a little more creative and try my hand at writing books. I have written four novels under my pen name John Pendleton and now a non-fiction book under my own name John Cowpe.

Wider Ownership - A Way Forward for the UK, argues that encouragement of wider ownership, whether that be of homes, shares or community assets, is the positive way forward for the United Kingdom. It makes the case that a fundamental shift towards a truly popular capitalism can help overcome the alienation which many people, especially the young, feel towards our economic system and democracy. The book’s ambition is towards a country where many more people can enjoy a stable family life and good sustainable income. It hopes to help change the often-held view that capitalism inevitably produces an “us and them” society.
