Alex Newman
I am Alex Newman, author of MANGO and The Consent Chronicles. In my fiction, I explore memory, identity, freedom, and the responsibility that comes with making a choice. I am interested in what keeps us ourselves when our lives change, and where care for another person crosses the line into control.
My writing brings these questions into the relationships between people, as well as their encounters with power and technology. What makes consent meaningful? Can love coexist with respect for another person's freedom? How does the past shape what we are willing to accept in the present? These are the questions I explore through my characters and the consequences of their decisions.

What inspired you to start writing?
I began writing while I was still at school. My first published work concerned nature conservation and cultural heritage; stories and poetry followed. My mother gave me my love of reading and writing. In 1994, my first romantic adventure book appeared in a small edition. Writing has remained part of my life ever since.

Which questions connect your books?
I write romantic suspense and science fiction, but both bring me back to choices and their consequences. MANGO explores love, loss, and identity. The Consent Chronicles asks questions about memory, freedom, and consent. I am interested in the boundary between helping someone and taking control of their future, and in what makes a decision truly their own.
