Inside the Mind - SURY V.S

  • Q: What inspired you to start writing?
I was fond of reading many good authors. I suppose that after my retirement from service, the hidden inspiration to write welled up.
  • Q: Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
It is a drama. My first drama! It was inspired by the last chapter of my own first novel, Jestus.
  • Q: How do you create your characters?
Actually/factually, the plot and ideas just crop up in my mind. I trust more on intuition than on severe cogitation.
  • Q: What does your typical writing day look like?
Oh, most ordinary. Most of the day goes into daily routines necessary for a bodily existence and living. The mind is simply peaceful (in spite of the surrounding noise). The trick is not to unduly hurry. I just keep apart a particular hour specifically for writing. Mind you, I am not a professional writer. At my age (82) I am more drawn towards spirituality.
  • Q: What has been the most rewarding part of being an indie author?
Naturally, as every author must feel, the act of seeing my book in print.
  • Q: What’s one challenge you’ve faced in your writing journey?
No challenge, as far as the act of writing is concerned. Marketing the books is a tough job.
  • Q: Do you have any favorite writing tools or apps?
No apps. From the beginning, I have been using my laptop and MS Word.
  • Q: What advice would you give to new or aspiring indie authors?
Read plenty of books. Maintain a high level of curiosity. Do not worry too much about sales.
  • Q: How do you handle book promotion as an indie author?
Just tweeting and using FB and Instagram. My financial position does not permit me to spend on advertising.
  • Q: What’s next for you? Are you working on a new book?
Started a new book quite recently. Hope to finish it in one year! My notebook contains enough ideas to last for 10 years or more. As I said, I am not a professional writer. Slow and steady is my nature.
