Inside the Mind - ROGER PEDERSEN

  • Q: Can you explain your writing process? Do you prefer to create an outline and plan beforehand, or do you prefer to write more spontaneously and organically?
I write the first chapter of my next book, placing it at the end of the previous book (a teaser) Then I write the ending of the current book so all that is left is connecting the two chapters. I work on one chapter at a time with a basic plan, it works itself out.
  • Q: Tell us what you enjoy most about writing [genre].
Creating stories and using my experience as a top videogame designer, to add popular trivia seamlessly in every chapter, borrowing from stories like Hercules, The Odyssey and Dante's Inferno making these legendary stories current and my own.
  • Q: Describe the [book/series] in 10 words or less for people who are just learning about it.
People discover the answer to Forbes magazine, "If you had one SuperPower, would it be to Fly or to become Invisible?"
  • Q: As an author, what critique has been the most challenging for you to receive? On the other hand, what compliment has been the most rewarding?
First my grammar was in need of fixing, so I bought Grammarly. Then, since I am broke, I am doing all the marketing myself.
  • Q: Have you ever experienced writer’s block? How did you deal with it?
I never as I believe that I must record something to move forward a day or edit my books at least one sentence to pages worth.
  • Q: Did you have any say in the cover design?
I designed the cover and had Ruth from Nigeria, a real artist, fix it for me.
  • Q: Do you have any movie or tv adaptations in the works?
I have a professionally written pitch deck and I wrote SuperPower: The Deal of the Art (book #1) script.
  • Q: Did you always want to be an author? If not, what did you want to be when you grew up?
In the late 1990s I wrote two 400+ page books on Game Design that sold very well. Living in a NY City homeless shelter with a laptop, I reviewed the most asked question ever asked 'If you had one SuperPower, would you choose to fly or to become invisible?' Then I learned that only 4 item one could trade for food, diamonds, gold, silver and masterpiece paintings. I have my basis for my SuperPower book series.
  • Q: Where do you like to write? In a coffee shop? In your home office? On the beach?
I write every morning at the Sr Center with Internet. Then, at the homeless shelter and after their free dinner at the NY Public Library. Anywhere I walk, I talk to my cell phone to create chapters and my thoughts.
  • Q: What other hobbies do you have outside of writing?
I am a Life US Candidate chess master, when I have the money go on Carnival cruises, Disney and Universal theme parks.
  • Q: Are any of the characters in your book based on people in your real life? If so, can you tell us more about that process and how it influenced your writing?
My characters are named after my family and friends or names like the devil Lewis Cypher. My daughters Michele Lock, Brooke Laurel, Megan Leigh, and Meredith Marlowe. My friends Bob Yarjo (Bessalel Yarjovski), Rober Michaels (Hausman), my brother Glenn Erics (Pedersen). I am Paul Spence, Roger Edwards, Roger E Pedersen in my books.
