Inside the Mind - Peter John Cubbon Craine

  • Q: When did you start writing?
I started very late. I am fast approaching retirement here in Spain.
  • Q: Why did you decide to start writing?
I have a type of neurodivergence that has caused me problems all my working life. Now, finally I am free of all the distractions and mental health problems that plagued me so much. My mind is clear, and I have time for artistic pursuits, including writing. Not long ago I had an idea for a book and just started typing.
  • Q: Do you plan your books?
Not really. At the beginning I have an idea about the whole story, but the chapters come to me as I type.
  • Q: How many books have you written?
Five books. The last two books I wrote are part of a series of three (Better Bots). I am currently writing the third. Most of my books have LGBTQ+ characters.
  • Q: What has been the most rewarding part of being an indie author?
Just seeing my books appear live on the Amazon website. I get a real thrill from that.
  • Q: Do you have any favorite writing tools or apps?
I use LibreOffice. It's a free version of Microsoft Word.
  • Q: What advice would you give to new or aspiring indie authors?
If you have an idea for a book, sit down and start typing. That's what I did. It may seem daunting at first, but for me, writing a book is like reading. The story appears as I type, so I have no real idea what is going to happen.
  • Q: What’s next for you? Are you working on a new book?
I am writing the third of a set of three Gay/Romance/Comedy books: Better Bots. I have written the first two, Barry's Bot and Barry's Bot 2: Pie Hard. They have a lot of British humour and I hope they are fun to read.
