Q: What inspired you to start writing?
I am the son of the poet Shänne Sands and was brought up with books. Decided to write for children when I was 14 and added non-fiction and thrillers later.

Q: Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
The Wandering Poet is about Shänne Sands taken from her diaries, writing, poems and letters of those who knew her. Wrapped in the myth of the wanderer who is reborn generation to generation.

Q: How do you create your characters?

Q: What does your typical writing day look like?
When I sit down I can do 1000 words at one sitting. I walk in the fields (not mine), plan, speechify to the flowers and slowly set myself target dates.

Q: What has been the most rewarding part of being an indie author?
working with others - from student artists to well known painters and editors as well as learning how to typeset and work with other writers to bring well crafted, fine design to the digital paper- and hard-back.

Q: What’s one challenge you’ve faced in your writing journey?
agents always let me down. The BBC. Accessing people who can make decisions.

Q: Do you have any favorite writing tools or apps?
Typesetting, script writing and image tools.

Q: What advice would you give to new or aspiring indie authors?
Read about the lives of writers across the world. Expect nothing - but write anyway.

Q: How do you handle book promotion as an indie author?
with immense difficulty. I thought readers would recommend and word of mouth would be enough but it isn't.

Q: What’s next for you? Are you working on a new book?
the fifth in the Blueskin series and some science fiction short stories.
